About The New Janky Workshop
I'm Geoff, and I hail from a suburb of Gillette Stadium, MA. I make videos on woodworking, metalworking, leatherworking, laserworking (I'm coining that term!) and other stuff. I am a keyboard monkey by day, and a maker of all of the things by night.
I started off eons ago when I met a friend through work, and we realized we were both Halloween nerds. So, we would get together at least one night a week, and build some props and animatronics for our home displays. That turned into what would become "The Garage of Evil" - in its heyday, was THE home on the interwebs for "home haunters". Life got in the way, and my friend ended up taking that thing pretty far, with him and his wife building major props for places all across the country, and being Discovery Network's go-to for finding people in the home haunter community.
In the interim, I ended up designing and running the website for The New Yankee Workshop. Not being a woodworker (at the time, although I am I guess classified as a woodworker now, I work with wood, but I am no master craftsman!) I didn't take advantage (sadly) of my access to the man himself, Norm Abram.
But yes, I've been there to the actual New Yankee Workshop (on multiple occasions). The janky video the website had back in the early 00's? That was me. Their first e-commerce platform for buying plans and DVDs? Also me.
Fast forward about 10 years, my buddy and I built a deck. I then had my own miter saw, and a pile of scraps from the deck build. And started making things. Like benches. I made a lot of benches. And the COVID happened, and I REALLY went down the rabbit hole. And here we are at present day.
I like to make a little bit of everything. I basically like to solve problems, and make things that either my lovely wife (https://www.skoshieandfriends.com) or I wants/needs. I also do custom commissions here and there, and sell stuff on this site, and of course, I make videos.
Maybe a little entertaining, with a dash of some learning (maybe). Sometimes (ok, more often than not) a bit janky, and definitely not THE Norm.
(P.S. You'll see VARO Industries stuff everywhere - that is my company. The New Janky Workshop is just my YouTube channel)
Thank you for the ❤️and support! I appreciate you.
